The literal translation of the prefix (Gewürz) is ‘spice’, and its suffix (Traminer) refers to the Traminer grape, which was widely grown around the northern Italian town of Tramin until the 16th century. Although its origins are Italian, the greatest Gewürztraminer vines are found in France’s Alsace region.
Ravine’s Winemaker, Morten Hallgren, chose to create a Gewürztraminer in 2007 due to the exceptionality of the vintage year and of the grapes which achieved perfect, lush ripeness.
